Tailoring is a valuable skill to have and to train. Not only will it allow you to craft your own clothes, it will also allow you to repair, reinforce, and resize clothes. This can be used on the clothes that you make, but also on what you find. Tailoring makes use of cloth, leather, wool, and fur materials. You can also use reinforce clothing with kevlar using the tailor's kit. For most tailoring jobs, you will need a tool to do the work, thread to reload your tool, and raw materials to make or repair clothes.

Tools
There are four main tools which can be used in tailoring. The bone needle, wooden needle, sewing kit, or tailor's kit. The tailor's kit is special, as it also lets pad clothes with fur, leather, or kevlar. In order to knit, you either need knitting needles or a tailor's kit.
The bone and wooden needles are the easiest to craft. The bone needle requires a survival skill of 1, a tool with cutting of 1, and either a bone or human bone, whereas the wooden needle requires a skewer or splintered wood instead of either bone. Similarly, knitting needles require fabrication 1, cutting of 1, and 2 skewers.
Sewing and tailor's kits can usually be found in washrooms in cities. These kit's are able to craft sheets, which needles can not.
Thread
In order to use your tool, you will first need to open your inventory, and reload the tool with either thread, sinew, or plant fiber.
Thread can be found in houses, as well as in sewing and tailor's kits. Thread can also be obtained by (Disassembling a long string into a Small string, and then the short string into thread. It can also be obtained by Butchering rags, although this takes longer than disassembling strings.
Sinew can be obtained by butchering dead animals, and plant fiber from dead plant-based monsters.
Knitting requires yarn.
Materials
In order to tailor, you need raw materials: rags, leather patches, felt patches, or fur pelts. These can be obtained by disassembling or butchering clothes which make use of the related material. Kevlar plates are required if reinforcing clothes by using a tailor's kit, and can be obtained similarly to the above.
Using your tool
In order to practice your tailoring, open the inventory, select your tool (and if needed, reload it), and then activate it. You next select a clothing item. The clothing item will either be damaged, repaired, or you practice your sewing, or improve the fit, or reinforce it further.
Notes
At low tailoring levels, you will quite often damage, or even destroy, clothing. It is recommended to use your tool on an intact piece of clothing to "practice your sewing" until you reach level 2 in tailoring.
